If you have any taste, appreciation or interest in the style of mecha that was most popular in 1980s animation-- Mobile Suit Gundam, Metal Armor Dragonar, Heavy Metal L-Gaim-- or just want a good way to spend the weekend, I can recommend Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog wholeheartedly. I blasted through it this past weekend and loved my time with it. It's a point-and-click adventure game much like you would see on the PC-98 set aboard a space ship similar to the White Base. You follow the ship's meager crew of seven across two days and three story arcs, watching tensions between the crew bubble over in the cold expanse of space. I found it to be a very satisfying space thriller. With the game being as short as it is, I don't feel like a long-form review is necessary. Just check it out and see if you catch the vibe! Instead, I wanted to point out all the references to classic mecha that I found over my playthrough. Let them be a good example of what the game has to offer.

I bet the pen was a Red Comet Pilot G2!

The main mechs of the game strike a quite DOM-inating silhouette.

Even the in-universe candy is trying to tell you: don't skip Gundam ZZ! It's pretty sweet!

I wouldn't want to be holed up in a spaceship with anyone parroting this philosophy...

...Unfortunately, everyone's favorite fucked-up blondie is a crew member.

Do you think there's also a JFS Wing, Unicorn or Turn A?

I think that song was "Do You Remember Love?" It was a hit back in the 80s.
